The 5 NEEDLE PROTOCOL (5NP)
What is the 5NP?
In this brief video, you'll discover the fundamentals of the 5 Needle Protocol (5NP), an easy yet impactful auricular acupuncture method designed to promote stress relief, emotional equilibrium, and holistic well-being. Emphasizing community support and accessibility, 5NP employs a non-verbal, trauma-informed approach that harmonizes with various healing modalities. This introduction offers a solid foundation for understanding the mechanics of 5NP and what to anticipate when visiting a community clinic.
The 5 Needle Protocol (5NP) embodies a comprehensive approach to health and wellness, serving as a vital element within mental health and addiction treatment.
Commonly referred to as auricular acupuncture, Acudetox, or the NADA protocol, the 5NP is a standardized ear acupuncture technique supported by clinical evidence for its effectiveness in addressing addictions, behavioral health issues, trauma, and disaster relief. This straightforward yet potent treatment involves the insertion of five sterile needles at precise points in each ear. With its non-verbal and non-threatening nature, the protocol often elicits an immediate calming response. It has been shown to enhance treatment retention and is adaptable across various cultural contexts.
Once the needles are in place, the healing process is facilitated by the individual's own body. This empowering method is particularly beneficial for clients who may feel disconnected from their bodies due to trauma and other life difficulties. Research indicates that the 5NP can lead to improved patient outcomes, including better program retention, reduced cravings, alleviated anxiety, enhanced sleep quality, and decreased reliance on pharmaceuticals. Furthermore, it has proven effective as an adjunctive treatment for trauma, PTSD, chronic pain, and depression. Notably, it was utilized following the events of 9/11 for first responders and community members.
