What is Mindfulness?
A close up of a green leaf with water drops on it
The most widely used definition of mindfulness comes from Jon Kabat-Zinn:

“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.”

Although it has gained a lot of popularity, Mindfulness is not a passing fad. Science is proving the many benefits of mindfulness on our physical, emotional, and psychological health. Doctors are prescribing mindfulness classes to their patients, colleges are providing courses on mindfulness and big corporations are offering mindfulness training to their employees.

The concept seems so simple – just bringing awareness to the present moment without judgment. Simple? Yes. Easy? Nope. In our fast-paced to-do-list-Netflix-binge-watching-need-a-vacation-from-my vacation paced life, who has the time??? But we are learning that this hectic pace is contributing to chronic stress and chronic stress is connected to poor health.

When you get to the end of this train ride we call life, wouldn’t it be great to look back and know you had really lived the most present life you could? A life where you find the space and courage to feel the bumpy tracks. A life where you take in the colors, the sounds, the smells of life versus getting to the end of the train ride only to look up from your phone and realize that life had passed you by. Mindfulness gives us tools to support a more AWAKE life. Tools of transformation. An opportunity to break the chains of habit and reactivity and shift into more compassion and responsiveness simply by connecting to what is alive in you in this moment….

...And now this moment...

...And this one...
